Wingback chair

The wingback chair is so named because it has curves in the headrest area to comfortably support the user's head. These bulges resemble ears and often make the classic wingback chair significantly wider than a normal armchair, as they are attached to the left and right sides of the backrest. However, the wings can also be integrated into the raised backrest, resulting in a slimmer chair design. This makes it suitable for smaller spaces, and you don't need large rooms to create an inviting seating area.

What are the advantages of a wingback chair?

In a  wingback chair , you sit comfortably and can truly relax. The high backrest with its "wings" provides good support and a cozy reclining surface for your back and head.

The armrests allow for a relaxed arm posture even when reading, watching TV, listening to music, or conversing. The upholstery is soft but not opulent, allowing for longer "sessions."
A major advantage of chairs with integrated wings is that their narrower backrest, without side bulges, makes them simply narrower. This doesn't detract from the comfort but allows the chair to be used in smaller living areas. Two or three chairs and a smaller coffee table or a  side table  are then enough for a cozy seating area.

What should you consider when choosing?

The perfect place for a wingback chair is certainly the living area. Here, you should consider whether you want to integrate it into an existing seating group as a single armchair or, for example, create a cozy seating area with a side table. For a spacious seating group, large, classic seating furniture models are best – these ensembles are known from English clubs, stately homes, and 'salons'. For a smaller reading nook, it's better to use narrower armchairs with a side table to create a cozy seating group or an informal discussion area.

In the guest room, a wingback chair is a good choice to make the guest feel comfortable and at home. In hotel rooms or the lounge in a bar, these chairs also cut a good figure, especially if they are not too wide and do not take up too much space.

There are various options regarding style. The classic Chesterfield wingback chair fits perfectly with vintage or colonial styles, while a floral seat cover harmonizes well with country house style and romantically furnished rooms.
Wingback chairs with a plain cover suit all possible styles and enhance any room with their high-quality appearance.

Care of wingback chairs

Depending on the cover material, there are different care options. Leather covers should be treated occasionally with a special leather care product to prevent the leather from becoming brittle and cracking. Faux leather can be cleaned with a damp cloth. For textile covers, a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery brush attachment or a handheld vacuum cleaner is usually sufficient to remove dust. Stains should be gently dabbed off with a cloth moistened with lukewarm water, without rubbing too hard – with velvet, scuff marks can quickly appear.
