Rosewood

Rosewood, also known as Indian rosewood, is a subspecies of palisander or sheesham wood and is referred to as "Indian rosewood" in English. Equating it with sheesham wood in general is incorrect, as sheesham encompasses a range of other wood types.
Rosewood is a valuable and attractive fine wood, highly prized in the furniture and interior design industry. Due to its beauty, durability, and resistance to moisture, insects, and fungal decay, rosewood is widespread and very popular in India.

Rosewood grows in moist, nutrient-rich tropics. It is a slow-growing tree that can reach up to 25 m in height. The heartwood is light to golden brown to dark brown and often has irregular, wavy color zones that create the visual appeal in later furniture. The color can vary greatly from light to dark, depending on the location and nutritional situation of the tree. The tree can tolerate high rainfall up to 2000 mm as well as several months of dry periods and also tolerates slight salt content in the soil. Indian rosewood is one of the most expensive and valuable fine woods, primarily due to its coloring, striking color contrasts, and very expressive grain.

Rosewood is primarily used to make tables for living rooms, dining rooms, or studies and chairs. Solid wood tables with live edges, in particular, are an absolute highlight in any dining room or living area due to their very interesting tabletop surface and naturally curved live edge.

When combining with other furniture, both the respective color and the strong grain should be considered. Rosewood furniture should not be combined with other strongly structured furniture in a room, as this can easily create a restless impression. It is usually better to combine it with furniture in solid colors and, for solid wood furniture, with a calm, less pronounced grain.
When making a new purchase, therefore, the other furniture should be matched to the rosewood piece, as its color can vary greatly. So, buy the rosewood furniture first, and then the other pieces.

Please note that this information merely provides general details about the wood type.
