Rustic style

The rustic style is characterized as natural, rough, and informal. However, various styles are represented here, such as coastal, country, and modern rustic styles. Originally, the rustic style was heavy and dark, as objects came directly from nature and were repurposed or newly built. The new modern rustic style, however, is bright and appears lighter.
An important element in rustic style is weathered, raw wood, as seen in Rough Wood furniture and incorporated into ceiling beams and wood paneling. For wooden floors, laying wide wooden planks can lay the foundation for a rustic design. It is also possible to restore rooms to their old, original condition, which, of course, only achieves the desired effect in old buildings with appropriate substance.
Wall coverings can be made of stone; in modern apartments, stone slips that are glued like tiles and look deceptively like a stone wall are suitable. Ideally, one would have real stone walls at home, for example, made of bricks or tiles. Modern, almost jointless paneling made of wood looks very natural due to its beautiful grain and creates a "wow effect" with minimalist white or light furniture.
For ceiling beams, you can either expose old beams and leave them in their raw state, or install new beams and make them "look old".

For furniture, used items can be employed, or recycled wood with significant signs of wear. Old furniture with a past brings a cozy and rustic character. The furniture should be rather large and heavy than small and delicate; thick live edge tables with a natural table edge are particularly suitable here. In combination with wooden benches, such a table group creates an absolutely authentic look. Industrial fittings on the furniture, rusted metal, recycled, and dull iron result in matte and non-shiny surfaces. One should only be careful if the room design itself already appears very rustic. In such cases, modern, rather minimalist furniture pieces can create a beautiful contrast.

To prevent rooms from appearing too heavy, light and white colors should be combined, and textured textiles made of linen, cotton, or wool should be used. Floor coverings are usually made of wood, tile, or stone, with rugs made of sisal, jute, or seagrass.
